Gum disease and periodontal treatment in Fort Worth
From early gingivitis to advanced periodontitis — diagnostics, deep cleaning, laser therapy and a maintenance plan that keeps it from coming back.
What is gum disease?
Gum disease, also called periodontal disease, is an infection of the tissues that surround and support your teeth. It starts with plaque — a sticky film of bacteria — which hardens into tartar if it isn’t cleaned away properly.
Left untreated, patients risk tooth loss and deterioration of the bone that holds teeth in place, along with links to other health conditions such as heart disease and diabetes. We offer comprehensive diagnostics and periodontal maintenance programmes designed to stop that progression.

Signs you may have gum disease
Any one of these is worth a call. Several together means don’t wait.
- Gums that bleed easily when you brush or floss
- A noticeable change in how your teeth fit together when biting
- Pus between the teeth and gums
- Teeth that appear longer, due to gum recession
- Sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures
- Deep pockets developing between teeth and gums
What causes gum disease
- Smoking or tobacco use
- Hormonal changes, especially during pregnancy
- Certain medications that reduce saliva flow
- Chronic illness such as diabetes or autoimmune conditions
- Genetic predisposition
- Poor nutrition or vitamin deficiency
Periodontal treatment options
We start with the least invasive option that will actually work.
Scaling and root planing
A non-surgical deep clean that removes tartar and bacteria from below the gumline and smooths the root surface so tissue can reattach.
Laser therapy
Targeted removal of infected tissue within the pocket, typically with less bleeding and a more comfortable recovery.
Antibiotic therapy
Locally applied or prescribed antibiotics to control bacterial infection alongside mechanical cleaning.
Surgical procedures
For advanced cases where non-surgical treatment can’t reach or rebuild what has been lost.
How to keep gum disease away
Prevention is by far the most effective approach. Brushing at least twice a day, flossing daily and using an antibacterial mouthwash keeps plaque under control between visits.
Regular check-ups let us monitor your gums and catch early signs before they become severe. For patients who have already been treated, periodontal maintenance visits every three months remove buildup from the areas that are genuinely hard to reach at home.
We also put real weight on patient education — you should leave knowing what to do differently, not just what we did.
Gum disease FAQs
Is gum disease reversible?
Gingivitis, the earliest stage, is generally reversible with professional cleaning and better home care. Once it progresses to periodontitis and bone has been lost, treatment focuses on halting the damage and maintaining what remains.
Does deep cleaning hurt?
We numb the area thoroughly before scaling and root planing, so the procedure itself is comfortable. Some tenderness for a day or two afterwards is normal.
How often will I need maintenance visits?
Patients with a history of periodontal treatment usually come in every three months rather than six, because that is the window in which bacteria re-establish below the gumline.
